RVA is amazingly beautiful. The people have been extremely welcoming and the area is green and lush. The first morning here we woke up and looked out the window and had an amazing view down the Rift Valley. The Milligans’ home is very comfortable. We have hot showers, clean tap water and many familiar foods. However, it is still a foreign country for us. We do not understand the language (of the native Kenyans - Swahili) and we come from a very different lifestyle from those living here.
We have spent the last few days helping out around the house, taking lots of pictures, taking walks around the school with Joey (he’s the youngest Milligan at 3 years old) and sleeping. Jet lag has been a lot harder for Shawn than I. I just keep waking up at night and falling asleep during the day. He couldn’t fall asleep until 5:30 am last night!
So far we have loved it here and I feel like we’ve been here a lot longer than two days. I’ve loved playing with the kids. And Shawn and I have been learning so much about missions work and life in Kenya.
Keep praying for our health. Shawn is fighting a nasty cold. Not a great way to start our trip. But other than that we’re doing really well. You can also pray that we get our bag back that we lost enroute. It held about 99% of the gifts we brought. And the last thing I can think of is prayer for wisdom for us. Wisdom that we could see needs and help without having to be asked and wisdom for knowing when and where to move onto after this. At this point we’re still planning on heading back down into Nairobi to visit the Felkners.
Thanks for all the comments and emails people have sent. It means so much to hear even just a line or two. As much as we are enjoying our trip so far it can still get overwhelming!
Posted by dani at June 8, 2004 12:28 PMWow—I love this internet thing!! Much easier being a mom with family scattered throughout the world, when e-mails and cell phones keep us linked! Eric had just called from his golf course job in Tucson, Dick just sent an e-mail from a little cafe w/ computers, in Kiev, Shawn just sent a quickie e-mail from Kenya, and now I’m reading your very recent journal entry!! Amazing!!
I’ll sure be praying for the missing bag to turn up…I know how much time you spent getting everything together. Also will p/4 wisdom & God’s timing in each step of the way. God bless… Love, Mom K
Yo Yo Yo, it’s awesome to hear that ya’ll made it safe and things are going well so far. I am working at a country club here in Tucson, mainly watering greens during the intense heat of the day. Also, I am diving 2 times a day, so at night I am pretty beat from being in the sun all day. Well, keep us posted and I will pray that Shawn feels better. Have a good one.
Posted by: Eric at June 8, 2004 02:31 PMWell if a bag was going to be lost, I guess that’s the easiest one to live without. Don’t forget you also brought along gifts of kindness, thoughtfulness and helpfulness! Shawn’s cold will probably get better just as soon as he fixes his sleep schedule! Poor guy!
I love reading your journals & the pictures are great!
You’re always in our thoughts & prayers.
Love, M&D
