Family and Friends

I was planning on coming down to the computer this morning to write all about our fun weekend as “parents” and at the last minute I decided to read Shawn’s latest post. It’s a good thing I did or everyone would be reading the same thing twice.

We had a ton of fun with the kids, all 25 of them. The dorm guys here are great. They have all been open, friendly and they seem pretty glad we’re here. Just yesterday there were a bunch of monkeys in the back of the house/dorm (they are attached) and a bunch of the guys knew that Shawn hadn’t seen them yet and they came down to make sure that Shawn got to see the monkeys. We had fun watching movies (which is a really funny experience when you’re the only girl to twenty guys!) and hanging out at their different sports games. Our favorite games to go to are the rugby games.

The Milligans really seen to like having us here. I think it helps Bob and Stephanie a lot just knowing that we are here so that they can pop in and out whenever they need to and know that the kids will be fed or put to bed on time.

This first week has been an awesome intro to Kenya. I realise that this is not really an authentic experience of Kenya at its worst (ie slums, poor villages and orphanages) but it has eased us into it. I’m excited about going into Nairobi and experiencing a different area of Kenya.

Shawn and I were talking last night and were discussing the benefits of our staying here at RVA. For us, the most beneficial part is learning a lot more about the missions field. When you think of missionaries in Africa you think of bush work (which the Milligan’s did do for two years in Tanzania) or work in the slums. Never once had I really considered how important supportive missionary roles are. If it were not for RVA, many of the families that are out in the bush would have to return state side for their kids to have a good education. RVA provides an awesome educational experience as well as a community based environment that keeps the kids loved and safe as well as fosters their spiritual lives. I realize now that missions is so much more than simply preaching the gospel.

One last thing…to all of you aout their who are reading…feel free to comment and email. We have appreciated the emails and comments so much. We miss our family and friends and the fmailiarity of home and we still have nine to ten more weeks to go. Love you all….

Helloooo Friend!

How are ya! I totally forgot about this website but I just saw your parents and they reminded me.

Wow! Already you’re experiencing amazing things. A little preview of family life with the dorm guys and nursary work??? :D

I love all the pictures you put up. Are the monkeys mean? Did the tea really taste as though it were high quality? Do you know any Swahili to communicate with?

Well, i’m leaving for camp on thursday morning. I hear you about being stressed out about forgetting stuff when you travel. I used to have nightmares every summer before camp about forgetting important things (like clothes), (but i thought the pillow case story was pretty cute).

I don’t know how often i’ll be able to check your website out, so for now i just hope you’re having an amazing time and that God is teaching you so much through your experiences.

Catch ya later, Chica!

Luv,

Meghan :)
